Labia of the human female genitals
The labia majora are the outer thick folds of skin of the vulva that run from the mons pubis to the anus. When a girl has not yet reached puberty her labia majora are covered by pigmented skin, meaning that it will have a color in the labia, it also contains sebaceous glands, these glands are oil secreting. After puberty, her labia majora will be covered by coarse hair, depending on heredity the pubic hair may be abundant or scarce, with the inner sides are smooth and hairless and have sweet glands. Beneath the labia, there is mostly fatty tissue and some ligaments, smooth muscle fibbers, nerves and vessels (blood and lymphatic). The labia minora are hairless and it has no fat, the skin of the labia minora is smooth moist, pink (pigmentation varies between ethnicity’s) and it has sebaceous and sweet glands. The labia minora protects the vagina by folding over it and keep it in a closed position through out the day.
